In class we all have books we are reading and the book I chose was Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. I chose this book because i like action and adventure, and this book seems like something involving just that. I've seen the trailer for the movie and it looks pretty good so I want to know more about it by reading the book. After reading the introduction and the first couple pages i think this book is going to be interesting. I'm excited to see what comes next.

Today we watched a documentary in class called War Photographer, which was about a man named James Nachtwey who made a living off taking pictures of war and harsh situations. James would travel to places like Africa and risk his life in the middle of a war to get pictures of the way some of these people live. It surprised me that he chose this as his career because it's so dangerous. He would literally be right beside people that were getting shot at and any second a bullet could hit him too. He was also in situations where it was hard to see and breath. He came across families of 5 and more living on the train tracks with not a lot of food to eat or water to drink. He would take pictures of sad people all day long and injured people fighting to survive. To me a job like this would just be depressing and scary. In the middle of some wars several different camera men would be in the same situation as him, and a couple would get shot or injured in the process. James sees all these people dying beside him and all it does is motivate him more to take better pictures for the world to see. I just found it so interesting that taking pictures could be so dangerous, and risking your life for career. James was great at his job and when you're good at something, you continue to do it.

Listening to the video below, Personally I disagree with Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson although he mentions a very interesting fact about the atoms and how they make up everything such as life on earth.. There are so many interesting facts about the universe, some that we haven't even found out about yet, and that's the beauty of it. I think the most astounding fact is how big the universe is. Just our solar system alone is massive, but there is so much more.  Knowing that we haven't discovered some planets and other areas outside of our solar system makes me wonder what's out there. The facts never stop coming because we can always learn more about the universe. Tomorrow we might find out that there is life on Mars or something else.

Michael Oher wasn't brought up like the average kid. He was separated from his mother and all his siblings at a young age. His mother was a dug addict and his father wasn't in the picture. Michael Oher would go to a different house every once in a while and would wander back to his mother, no matter what state she was in with her addiction. Michael Oher is a great example of the high 5 principles, heart, change, learning, journey and allies.

Michael follows his heart for most of the decisions he has to make during the movie. An example of this is when he decides to become a part of the Tuohy family. The Tuohy's help Michael with a lot of things during the movie. They give him a place to stay and foot to eat. They even got him a tutor, Ms. Sue so he could improve his grades to get the football scholarship he deserved. Michael was amazing at football in his position, Left Tackle. He wouldn't have played it and been successful if he didn't make the decision to join the Tuohy family.

Michael has to face some change during his life that are good for him, Like going to Wingate Christian School. Michael isn't that smart and he hasn't got much of an education. Going to school and not knowing anyone or anything can be tough. Also some kids might judge him because of his size and his colour. Change isn't easy but he manages to pull through the bad times and get better grades in his classes and make new friends while playing football.

Learning new things was also tough for Michael, but I'm sure once he learned them, he was happy he did. An example of this is when he was learning football, he didn't know a lot at first but eventually it came naturally for him. Starting off he was messing up plays and letting guys by him to sac the quarterback, but that's the whole point of getting better, if you're already perfect there's no point in getting better. Michael imagined the football team as the Tuohy's and how he had to protect them. Eventually he became a brick wall, letting no one by him.

Michael faced lots of journeys throughout the movie with football, school, and the family. A big example of Journey for Michael is when he had to leave the Tuohy's and head off to college. The Tuohy family did a lot for Michael, and now it was time to start doing things on his own. He had to manage to keep his grades up and get better and better for football season if he wanted to be a star at Left Tackle without anyone telling him what to do.

Leigh Ann, Sean, SJ, Collins, Ms. Sue, teachers and football buddies are all examples of allies Michael had during the movie. A major ally that took a big part in Michael's life was Leigh Ann Tuohy. She was the one who picked Michael up in the first place, and supplied him with all the things he needed. She was his biggest supporter and helped him with almost everything throughout the movie. Without Leigh Ann, Michael probably wouldn't be where he is now

To conclude, Michael is the perfect example of the 5 high principles. Heart, when Michael decides to follow his heart and become part of the Tuohy family. Change, when Michael goes to Wingate Christian school to get a better education. Learning, Michael learns the sport of football and becomes very good at it. Journey, Michael leaves for college on his own. Lastly allies, all of Michael's friends and family throughout the movie that help him through life, especially Leigh Ann.

We watched a movie in class called V for Vendetta which was about a freedom fighter know as V, who uses terrorist tactics to fight society. He rescues a woman named Evey from the police when she was out after curfue who became her friend/ally. The movie was made in Great Britain Where Parliment was burnt down by V to send a message about Personal Freedom vs. Government Control and many other things. V was a prisoner in Lark Hill Institution where he was tortured. He escaped and set out as a hero to many and a terrorist to others. He wore a mask and clothes that covered his entire body to hide his identity.

Back in the day, the government ran everything and not many of the people had freedom. Lots of people such as V were thrown in cells in institutions and tortuered. After V escaped, he wanted to send a message about the freedom of people and that it shouldn't be all up to the government to make desicions. Also, people had curfues in Britain, if the were out past curfue, like Evey was, they would be punished. Today, we have all of that freedom, we can stay outside for however long we want and no one can do anything about it.

Overall it's a lot different now than it was back then. In this movie, V needed to get the message through the governments' head however he could, and if that meant killing people, so be it. He fought for the freedom and ended up dying for it. He was a hero.
